Bravest Lion of them all!

Niko, our son, was diagnosed with Leukaemia (Blood Cancer) in February 2022.

Niko's anxiety very quickly became apparent and having his Port-a-cath accessed ended up becoming a very traumatic experience for all involved. As soon as he became aware of the nurses intentions, he would kick, scream, hit, cry and attempt to escape at all cost!

As a parent it was soul crushing to witness and I simply wished I could take it all away! I knew I had to do something to make it less distressing, especially as we knew we would be having this done very regularly for the next 3.5 years!

It was important that Niko felt comfortable, in control and that he was able to open and close his t-shirt and sit how he wanted to while the nurses accessed his port. After some designing and research, we designed and made a prototype of his very first accessible t-shirt.

These t-shirts have reduced his anxiety and the trauma involved, for all, to an indescribable extent. None of us could believe quite how much of a difference a t-shirt made.

We have since attempted having Niko's port accessed while wearing a "regular" t-shirt and instantly we revoked back in time and the anxiety and trauma was still very much present!

Many children who need to be accessed regularly have now tried our accessible t-shirts and their parents all agree that they have seen a clear improvement with many saying that they will no longer go to clinic without their child wearing their special t-shirt!
